On 8 January 2026, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan issued a press release on the Royal Embassy of Cambodia and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government exploring city-level cooperation.

Ambassador-Designate Sounry expressed appreciation for Tokyo’s leadership in promoting sustainable urban development and welcomed continued engagement to enhance friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Japan.
